Family vacation in Lech am Arlberg – Why the Goldener Berg is the perfect summer destination for the whole family.

When the mountain becomes a playground

“Families who come to us are often looking for both: the moment when everyone creates memories together—and the moment when everyone can have some time to themselves. That’s exactly what summer on the Golden Mountain is for.” — Daniela Pfefferkorn, hostess

Arrive. Breathe a sigh of relief. Take off your shoes.

Anyone visiting Oberlech with their family for the first time in the summer is greeted by an energy rarely experienced in this form. The plateau lies at 1,700 meters; the air is clear, and the meadows glow with a rich green that you rarely see in the city. Here, on the Golden Mountain, a family vacation in Lech am Arlberg begins—one that has something in store for everyone and offers the right space for each person.

A temporary home—for all generations

A great vacation begins with relaxation. At the Goldener Berg, families sleep surrounded by Swiss stone pine—a local material that promotes tranquility and deepens sleep. Whether it’s the Family Suite Schneewalzer, the Family Suite Petersboden, or the Two bedroom Suite—each offers both a peaceful retreat and the chance to spend quality time together. For the little ones, cribs, extra beds, and their own bathrobes are provided.

Summer at the Goldener Berg begins every morning with a generous breakfast buffet—organic yogurt, fresh fruit, warm bread, and a selection of savory and sweet options for young and old alike. Homemade Palatschinken and Franz Pfefferkorn’s “Egg in a Glass” are special hidden gems. The afternoon brings a warming soup and homemade cake—a little refreshment upon returning from the mountains. In the evenings, the ¾-pension plan spoils guests with a wide variety of multi-course menus: classic, alkaline, vegan-vegetarian, or ketogenic. Prepared primarily with regional ingredients from producers the hotel personally trusts. Plant-based Alpine Cuisine—fresh, seasonal, and wholesome for everyone. Everyone chooses what’s good for them and makes them happy. High chairs in the restaurant, a children’s menu in the evening—none of this is offered here as a special service, but rather as a matter of course.

Everyone does what nourishes them

A good family vacation doesn’t mean always doing everything together. Sometimes it’s just as rejuvenating when everyone goes their own way for a while—and then you come together in the evening with new stories to share. The Lech Card * makes exactly that possible: While the kids are off on a journey of discovery with the adventure program from Monday through Friday, the day also belongs to the parents. Perhaps Dad sets off into the mountains on his mountain bike: the Spullersee loop, the Burgwald Trail, or the Bike & Hike route to the Freiburger Hütte—with over 350 kilometers of trails, the Arlberg offers a whole new way to experience the region in summer. Meanwhile, Mom uses the time for herself: yoga on the mat with a view of the peaks, an Alphyanga massage at the Alpine Spa, an hour in the relaxation room—or simply enjoying the sun on the panoramic terrace.

Family Time in Nature

On weekends, young and old set off on adventures together: family rock climbing, canyoning, or a hike along one of the adventure trails—the Green Mystery Ring, the Arlenzauberweg, or the Stone Age Trail. Something new awaits around every corner. In the summer, the Goldene Berg offers daily yoga and meditation sessions—including family sessions on Sundays. No prior experience is necessary—the focus is on moving and experiencing things together.

*Guests at the Goldene Berg can purchase the Lech Card for stays of one night or more; for children up to age 14, the Lech Card—including the children’s adventure program—is free. The mountain world opens up right outside the hotel door. 350 kilometers of hiking trails make the Arlberg one of the most beautiful places to hike with children. Guided tours, Geo-Trail excursions, the hotel’s own “Seinspfad” (Path of Being), and the Lechuferweg with its small Kneipp facility—there’s the perfect trail for every step here. The mountain lakes around the Golden Berg invite you to take a “cold dip,” and the forest swimming pool—recently expanded to include a 25-meter lap pool, an aqua-fitness pool, a wave slide, and a children’s pool—is a welcome change of pace on warm summer days. An evening at the Rüfikopf promises a special experience: The cable car runs until 9:30 p.m. on Fridays in July and August.

Watching the sunset together, high above the peaks, on the 360-degree panoramic platform—these are moments that stay with you. And for those who want to experience the Arlberg in a completely different way: James Turrell’s Skyspace—a work of art that opens up the sky—is located on the way to the Kriegeralpe and leaves no one unmoved.
