Hiking

Downhill and uphill through nature

homepage

As spring arrives, the landscape all around turns once again into green and colourful meadows.

Right from the hotel, our guests set out onto the network of trails stretching across Lech, Zürs, Oberlech and the surrounding areas — whether for leisurely walks, summit hikes, Nordic walking or altitude training.

Hiking

Fresh mountain air
and wide, open views.

Along wide paths and narrow trails, you move through the mountains — uphill and downhill. With around 350 kilometers of routes, hikers can explore nature here on foot.

In summer, you wander through fragrant flower meadows, refresh yourself in crystal-clear mountain streams and dip your feet into turquoise alpine lakes.

In autumn, a vibrant palette of colours and a deep sense of calm settles over the Vorarlberg region. The peaks cast long shadows, and wildlife prepares for the coming snow.

At a time when nature and weather are becoming more extreme, it feels all the more meaningful to experience each season up close.

Altitude training

Run through
the heights.

Why do people who live in the mountains appear so rich in energy?

Science provides the answer: as altitude increases, oxygen levels in the air decrease and air pressure drops. As a result, less oxygen enters the bloodstream, prompting the body to naturally produce more red blood cells to improve oxygen uptake and transport.

Professional athletes are well aware of this and use it to their advantage, incorporating altitude training into their preparation for major competitions.

Nordic Walking

In the mountains,
go beyond.

With poles through a diverse natural landscape: right outside the hotel, you step onto the starting point of a network of 54 kilometers of marked walking trails. Of these, 13 kilometers are dedicated Nordic walking routes.

We have selected some of the most beautiful routes for you:

Easy (up to 2 km): Lech Promenade
Moderate (up to 7 km): Zug Loop, Weißbach Circuit, Two-Valleys Loop
Challenging (up to 13 km): Lech Riverside Run, Wiesele Trail

Vita Parcours Run

The ten different routes are especially popular with our more active guests. Along the way, signposts provide guidance on direction, distance and completed sections. The parcours also features 12 exercise stations where you can stretch and mobilise.

Afterwards, refresh yourself with a cold Kneipp bath.

The dynamic walking technique with specially designed poles engages the entire musculoskeletal system. The rhythmic movement creates a diagonal coordination between arms and legs, strengthening the muscles of the arms, back and legs alike — and encouraging fluid, active motion.

Guided hikes

Through the heights
with a guide.

Do you enjoy exploring in good company? Let us show you the beauty of nature in and around Lech Zürs. In summer and autumn, we offer daily guided hikes (excluding Sundays).

Here you’ll find an overview of some of the most beautiful routes. You can also receive detailed information about these and many other hiking trails at the reception.

Hiking routes

‍Lake Formarin • 5h

+

The bus takes you from Lech into the Zug Valley to Lake Formarinsee at 1,793 m. From there, you can enjoy a wonderful hike around the lake, around the Formaletsch and through the Steinerne Meer. The tour around the lake takes about 1 hour, one side of which is only accessible to experienced mountaineers. You should plan around 3 hours to go around the lake and Formaletsch.

Here you are on the first stage of the long-distance hiking trail “Lechweg - von der Quelle bis zum Fall”. The entire route covers a distance of 120 kilometers and is perfectly organized for long-distance hikers. The first stage from Lake Formarinsee, where the spring is located, to Lech is 13 kilometers long and you should allow around 5 hours for this route.

Gipslöcher

+

This nature reserve is just a short distance from the hotel and is a haven for plants and animals. For example, there is a variety of up to 20 different types of orchids. Hike across Petersboden, through the gypsum holes to the Wolfhütte in under an hour. Alternatively, take the Petersboden lift to the Wolfhütte and walk back to the hotel through the gypsum holes.

Auenfeldsattel — Bürstegg • 2.5h

+

Hike across the Auenfeldersattel to one of Austria's most beautiful places, the Körbersee, in around 2.5 hours. Stay at the lake for as long as your heart desires. This is our warmest lake — perhaps you would also like to glide through the cool water? From the lake, it takes about 20 minutes to the bus stop at Hochtannberg, or you can continue to Warth (approx. 1.5 hours).

Körbersee • 0.5h

+

From the hotel via the Auenfeldersattel to Körbersee. Have a snack at one of the most beautiful places in Austria (chosen a few years ago). From there, there are 2 options: You can hike about 30 minutes to Kalbelesee and Hochtannberg. At the Saloberlifte stop, take the 40a bus to Rüfiplatz.

Fish pond — Kriegerhorn — Oberlech • 1.5—2.5h

+

Want a real summit? We recommend the Mohnenfluh to experienced hikers! From the hotel, walk across Petersboden, past the Hasensprungbahn mountain station to the Steinmähder mountain station. From there onto the Mohnenfluhsattel and finally to the somewhat demanding climb to the summit. It's about 2.5 hours to the Mohnenfluhsattel. From there, it's about 45 minutes to reach the summit. If you want to walk around the Putzensee on the way back — our coldest mountain lake with Caribbean colors, you'll need an additional hour. Or you can descend via the Geisbühlalpe back to the Auenfeldersattel — a wonderful circular route. From here, it takes about 1.5 hours to get to the hotel.

Kriegeralpe • 2h

+

You walk to the bus stop at Hotel Mohnenfluh in Oberlech. The Lech-Kriegeralp trail also begins here. Passing the Muxelhof and Schottenhof, you will reach Skyspace Lech. The work of art designed by James Turrell and opened in 2018 offers completely new dimensions thanks to its special architecture — the opened dome narrows the space and field of vision of the sky in such a way that a completely new sense of space, time and thus consciousness is created. Here you can stay for a while and enjoy this spectacular work of art in the midst of the mountains of Lech Zürs with a view of the Biberkopf. It then continues, past the Grubenalpe, slowly uphill. Later, you can visit the gypsum holes before continuing past the Petersboden mountain station and the “Der Wolf” ski hut up to Kriegsalpe goes. From there, from the artist's Horizon Field installation, Antony Gormley sculpture no.3 Be admired across from the Kriegeralpe.

Duration approx. 2 hours.

Hiking is a

journey of the legs

and a state of

soul.
