Climbing and hiking in the Arlberg region around the active hotel Goldener Berg

The Arlberg region is one of the hiking and climbing hotspots in the Alps. Very close to the Goldener Berg there are numerous climbing tours with guides and superlative mountaineers. There are also 350 km of hiking routes waiting for you. So put your walking boots on, it’s time to head out!

Runners and Nordic walkers alike will notice the significant benefits to their fitness on the wonderful forest and meadow paths thanks to the altitude here.

An absolute must for keen hikers and mountain-lovers is the “Grüne Ring” (Green Ring). It almost follows the same route as the legendary “Weiße Ring” in winter, and is a round-trip that guests can walk in summer, enjoying the nature of the Arlberg region in all its facets. A series of stages leads via the Rüfikopf, Zürs, Zug, the Kriegerhorn and back to Oberlech, with everything that goes with it: the “Biwakschachtel” bivouac, “Walser Bibliothek” library, the giant on the Madloch, the “Sagenwald” forest of legends and the “Lecher Mauer”.

Perhaps you like the idea of an early morning tour up our local mountain, the Omeshorn. From the top, the views reach further into the Alps, with the Dolomites to the south, Switzerland's giants to the west, and the foothills of the Alps to the North.

Equally wonderful is the Gipslöcher nature conservation area, an easy route that can be enjoyed as an afternoon walk.

The mountain tour to the Göppingerhütte and up to the Älpele, via the Butzensee lake and the Braunarlspitze is not for the faint-hearted, a day's hike in a high Alpine environment.

Your host Daniela Pfefferkorn is a passionate climber and hiker herself and will happily share some insider tips with you. The hikers' bus (included on the Lech card) takes you back to the Goldener Berg.

Climbing

The “Rote Wand” is perfect for first climbing visits to the Arlberg region. Perhaps you would like to take part in a climbing course, or maybe you are already an experienced climber and want to embark on a tour yourself. In the evening at the mountain film festival in St Anton, impressive images show you how the experts do it.

We can happily organise a mountain tour on the via ferrata on the Karhorn with one of our qualified guides.

Biking

Beginners and experts alike are in their element when mountain biking in Arlberg, whether biking through the Zugertal valley towards the Spullersee lake, cooling your toes in the crystal clear meltwater, or via the Ravensburger Hütte and the Stierloch Joch back to the Fischteich pool, the choice is yours.

Apropos cooling off: the Lech pool and the Spullersee and Formarinsee clear mountain lakes are just a stone’s throw from the Goldener Berg.

Highlights and challenges on summer holidays in Lech at the active hotel in Lech

The dry climate of high summer enable some extra special highlights such as a downhill race to Lech for example.

One particular challenge for all mountain biking lovers is the mountain triathlon. You start on your mountain bike, then row across the Spullersee and finally run through the Stierloch. Feel strength, your strength, and that of nature.

If you want to head up high, then how about paragliding? Experience the mountains and valleys from a bird’s eye perspective and get to know the most majestic and beautiful views of the Arlberg.

Or does water attract you more? The Lech area is one of the few remaining wild water landscapes in the Alps. Guides can be booked via the Alpinschule Arlberg.

From 01.07.2020, the Seekopfbahn in Zürs will be put into operation in the summer and autumn months for the first time, thus offering a comfortable entrance to the 2nd stage of the Green Ring.
